Omaha Stadium Public Forum as Bloodsport

To quote a fellow Freeper  "Just Damn!"

I attended the Monday, March 11th public forum on the NCAA "Jump!" Omaha "How High?" stadium proposal.

I came away with three conclusions:
  1. The Founding Fathers were absolutely brilliant in creating a representative republic. True democracy is noisy, inefficient, often inarticulate with careening agenda's. It is however occasionally entertaining... in a train wreck sort of way. Similar to talk radio without call screeners.
  2. I was reminded during the public comment and questions portion of the meeting why talk radio has call screeners.
  3. The new downtown stadium is a done deal regardless of how many of the Blatters swamp and then weep, moan, berate and filibuster any given public function.
For clarity of position--HatfieldMccoy ( a little Bob Dole third person going on here)  is opposed to spending any more protection money to the NCAA mob.

To you Blatters, get a grip... News Flash ....NCAA Admits It's About the Money, States 59 year Legacy and Five Dollars will get you a Diet Coke at new Indianapolis 24,000 Seat Downtown Baseball Stadium.

To paraphrase a famous quote "we have established what the NCAA is, now Omaha just has to negotiate a price. So far we've been told at least $140M will get probably get us around 20 years of two week encounters.  If you get rid of the 59 year old lady. And they swear they won't be seeing anyone else... They are such a tease.. We need Elliot Spitzer as a consultant on this deal....

Regardless of what the Blatters or the Hat thinks, Fahey and the Stadium committee have all of the private funding juice, major corporate sign on and government power to make this happen. Mayor Fahey was clear during the Monday's "get bent and vent" session that any vote on the this plan was going to happen after the new stadium deal ink was dry and the luxury boxes were sold. That vote is called the Mayor's race. The city council may hide under rock's for awhile to avoid the inevitable. The bottom line--when the smoke clears and the head count starts not one of these elected officials will want to be associated with losing the CWS during their term. And by God they will spend as much of somebody else's money needed to assure that won't happen.

Perhaps a Public Meeting on which direction the new stadium faces is in order.......however, we need a screener.
